Bilateral relations
In April 1992, Luxembourg established diplomatic relations with the newly independent Republic of Croatia. From the outset, the Grand Duchy has supported Croatia in its reconstruction and on its path towards Euro-Atlantic integration, which was crowned with success by its accession to NATO in 2009, the European Union in 2013 and the eurozone in 2023.
Today, relations between the Republic of Croatia and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg continue to strengthen, in economic, political and cultural terms alike.
Prime Minister Luc Frieden’s visit to Zagreb on 2 December 2025 was an important occasion for reaffirming the ties between the two countries and the shared desire to deepen them further. The forthcoming opening of a new Honorary Consulate of Luxembourg in Zagreb will mark a further step in the consolidation of bilateral ties.
Luxembourg has also remained committed in the cultural sphere, notably through its support for the German-language film festival ‘Filmšnite – DACH-Filmnächte’ and the concert by the Luxembourg ensemble ‘Lucilin’ as part of the 33rd Zagreb Music Biennale.
